Haskell student charged with aggravated battery

Douglas County prosecutors Monday filed aggravated battery charges against a 21-year-old Haskell student who was accused of punching another man Sunday night in downtown Lawrence.

Prosecutors allege Kayuqtuq Oomittuk caused facial injuries to a Lawrence man. Lawrence police, after an investigation, arrested Oomittuk at 10:20 p.m. Sunday. Judge Pro Tem James George agreed to set Oomittuk’s bond at $3,500 cash or surety.

During the hearing Monday afternoon, Oomittuk said he was a full-time student with no means of income to pay the bond and that he had “no criminal record of violence at all.”
