Perry company submits low bid for project to repave part of Kansas Turnpike east of Lawrence

A Perry-based contractor is lining up to rebuild a 6.4-mile stretch of the Kansas Turnpike just east of Lawrence.

Hamm Cos. submitted the low bid of $23.2 million to handle the job, scheduled to start this summer and continue into next year — from the eastern edge of the turnpike’s ongoing reconstruction of Plaza 204 to a point just past the Lawrence service area.

The Kansas Turnpike Authority’s board of directors is scheduled to consider awarding the bid Thursday. Koss Construction, of Topeka, submitted the only other bid: $29 million.

Westbound lanes will be rebuilt first, followed by eastbound lanes.
