A federal judge and a public interest lawyer have earned the Kansas University School of Law’s highest honor.

John Lungstrum, a U.S. District Court judge, and Marilyn Harp, executive director for Kansas Legal Services, have received Distinguished Alumni Awards from the law school.

Lungstrum was appointed to the federal court in 1991 by President George H.W. Bush, and served as the district’s chief judge from 2001 to 2008.

Harp directs a statewide law firm of 45 attorneys who represent people who would otherwise struggle to have their voices heard. She has developed several programs for the elderly, minorities and others seeking legal services.
