Prairie Village — Lawrence High senior Byron Varberg lost to Joe Marquis of Blue Valley Northwest, 6-4, 2-6 (10-4), then defeated Jeff Wherritt of Wichita North, 9-3, in the state tennis tournament Friday at Shawnee Mission East.
In other state action, Free State’s doubles team of Dravid Joseph and Andrew Craig lost a pair of matches to teams from Manhattan and Shawnee Mission Northwest.
