Library looking for young volunteers

The Lawrence Public Library is looking for teens 13 to 18 to volunteer; they will participate in summer reading programs, office tasks, shelving books and more. Anyone interested in participating must attend one of the following library informational meetings, where all of the necessary forms and information will be distributed, and each applicant will meet briefly with library staff: Saturday, May 22, 11 a.m., auditorium; Monday, May 24, 3 p.m., auditorium; or Tuesday, May 25, 7 p.m., gallery. Immediate needs

• Big Brothers Big Sisters needs volunteers from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday to disassemble cubicles, remove storage bins and desk units, and help box up materials. The agency is also looking for volunteer community mentors. Sixty-five children are waiting to be matched with a year-round Big Brother or Big Sister. The application process usually takes three to four weeks. For more information about becoming a volunteer mentor, attend an orientation meeting on Tuesdays at 5:15 p.m. or Wednesday at noon. • The Community Blood Center needs volunteers to schedule appointments for blood donations by phone 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the KU Credit Union, 1300 W. 23rd St. Instructions will be provided. The Lawrence Memorial Hospital Blood Drive will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday at 325 Maine, Conference Rooms A and D. To volunteer, contact Pam Keenan at pkeenan@cbckc.org, or 888-647-4040. • The Lawrence Arts Center will need some artistic and fun volunteers to work the art stations at its Street P’Arty from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 12. Booths that will require volunteer participation include face painting, paint sling shot, playing with clay, cardboard city maze, stage help, contest leaders, and groups to walk as advertisers.
