Hazardous weather possible for Monday

The National Weather Service has issued a severe weather outlook for northeastern Kansas. Douglas County is included in the outlook, as well as the surrounding counties of Osage, Jefferson, Shawnee and Franklin.

Thunderstorms, which could contain up to half dollar-sized hail, will move across the area in the afternoon, according to the NWS.

A second round of storms is expected over central Kansas by 5 p.m., moving quickly northeast and exiting the state by midnight. Those storms will be capable of producing hail the size of golf balls or larger along with damaging winds up to 70 miles per hour. There is also a “substantial threat” for tornadoes over the area, particularly along and to the south of Interstate 70, according to the NWS.
