Strong Storms For Lawrence Monday Night

The tornado threat for the afternoon and evening hours will remain to our south and west as a sharp warm boundary is setting of numerous storms in Oklahoma and southern Kansas. We have already seen several tornado warnings across the Sooner state and portions of southern and western Kansas and it looks like that is where the tornado threat will remain.

With that said we are tracking a surface low that is slated to move directly across our region. That should bring us plenty of moisture and instability to bring significant thunderstorms late this evening and overnight.

Most of the storms in southern Kansas and Oklahoma are surface-based, which increases the possibility of tornadoes. Most of the model data indicates that these storm will become more elevated in nature by the time they make here. Our main threats at that point will be strong wind and large hail.

If you have an option to bring your car into a garage or under cover, it isn’t a bad idea this evening. Keep your weather radios on as well, as we very well could have watches and warnings for Monday night.

Stay safe and stay tuned!
