Shannon and Rich Malloy, Austin, Texas, announce the birth of their son, Jack Hunter Malloy, on April 12, 2010, in Austin.

Jack has a brother, Eldon, 2.

His grandparents are Chuck and Laurel Krider, Lawrence, and Art Malloy, of Iowa.

The Douglas County Law Library and the Douglas County Bar Association announces the winners of the Third Annual Douglas County Legal Essay Contest. Winners are Dylan Brooks, Free State High School, first; Molly Bostwick, Baldwin High School, second; and Lauren Barnes, Baldwin High School, third. In addition to receiving cash prizes — $1,500 for first, $1,000 for second, and $500 for third — the students were invited to the Law Day luncheon on Monday. A copy of Brooks’ first-place essay will be kept in the Law Library and his name and school inscribed on a plaque in the library.

The contest was open to all high school seniors who attended high school in Douglas County and planned to advance their formal education after graduation. The topic for the 2010 contest was “Constitutional Limits of Search and Seizure in Public Schools: What Should They Be?”

Eileen Richling, daughter of Sheri and Dale Richling of Lawrence, was named to the dean’s list in the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences for the fall 2009 semester at Binghamton University State University of New York, by earning a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

Richling is a freshman at the university.

Amy Wilson, 12, daughter of Jerry and Lynda Wilson of Eudora, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Pageant to be July 23-25 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Wichita. Wilson will compete in the pre-teen division.

Haley Fischer, a senior at Lawrence High School, has received a President’s Award scholarship to attend the Columbus College of Art & Design. The merit scholarship was awarded based on an art portfolio competition judged by a team of CCAD faculty.

Fischer will begin her studies this fall and plans to major in photography. She is the daughter of Darin and Ranelle Fischer, Lawrence.

Marilee and Mark Hinderliter, Baldwin City, announce the birth of their daughter, Addelyn Clare Hinderliter, on April 13, 2010, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Addelyn has two sisters, Gracelyn, 6, and Braelyn, 4.

Her maternal grandparents are Sam and Mary Bingham, Nortonville; and her paternal grandparents are Gary and Marie Hinderliter, Emporia.

Spencer Wilson, Eudora, a senior accounting major at Harding University, Searcy, Ark., was one of 80 students enrolled in the university’s world religions course who traveled April 15-18 to Dallas/Fort Worth to visit prominent world religion centers, including a Hindu temple, Buddhist temple, Muslim mosque and Jewish synagogue.
