Trash can thrown at Lawrence police spurs arrest

A 27-year-old man was taken into custody Thursday morning after allegedly attacking two people, one of them a Lawrence police officer.

The incident started when a woman reported that the suspect threw a large rock at her vehicle. She was not injured, but her vehicle sustained damage.

An officer found the suspect in the 800 block of Mississippi Street. That’s where Sgt. Bill Cory said the man threw a trash can toward the officer. The trash can hit the officer’s car.

After a short foot pursuit, the man was arrested and booked into the Douglas County Jail on allegations of attempted aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a police officer and two counts of criminal damage.
