Work to close lanes on 6th, N.Y. streets

Road repair crews today shift their focus another 2.25 miles to the east, as they start replacing damaged sections along Sixth Street with fresh pavement patches from Maine to Tennessee streets.

Drivers heading east will be limited to one lane in the work area, said Megan Gilliland, a city spokeswoman. As work continues throughout the week, crews will shift to the other side of the street, with no more than one lane to be closed at a time.

Also starting today: The intersection of 11th and New York streets will be closed for reconstruction, a concrete project expected to last all this week and perhaps stretch into the next. Crews also have closed New York, from 10th to 11th streets, to restore it as a brick street.

The one-block stretch will be closed for the next two months, Gilliland said. Next will come the section between Ninth and 10th streets, and then the section from 11th to 12th streets.
