KUMC professorship named for Dole

A new professorship at Kansas University Medical Center will be named for Bob Dole, the former Kansas Republican senator.

Dole made a $50,000 donation to KU Hospital’s Marc A. Asher Comprehensive Spine Center, whose governing committee requested that the funds be used to establish a KUMC professorship.

The new position will be used to lead a program of comparative effectiveness research of different spine care techniques.

Dole, who also donated $150,000 to the spine center in 2009, sustained a spinal injury while fighting in Italy during World War II.
