Lawrence school board members will have two public forums in April as they consider whether to move ninth-graders into the district’s two high schools for the 2011-2012 school year.

The first forum will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. April 1 in the Black Box Theater at Free State High School, 4700 Overland Drive. The second one will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. April 6 in the cafeteria of Lawrence High School, 1901 La.

Board members are seeking input from staff, students, parents and community members about the proposed change. Currently, 10th through 12th grades attend the high schools, and ninth-graders attend junior high schools.

The move is off the table for next school year because board members wanted to give school officials at least a year to plan the shift if the board approves it.
