Reece Wright-Conklin, sophomore, Lawrence High
Finished the season 34-2 and won the Class 6A state championship at 160 pounds by defeating Wichita Heights’ Hunter Jameson in the finals of last month’s state meet. Also won regional championship while earning regional wrestler-of-the-year honors. Both of his two losses this season came to eventual state champions.
Bryce Shoemaker, freshman, Baldwin
Won the Class 4A state title at 103 pounds to cap a 42-4 season. Was a Frontier League champion and regionals champion. Set two school records as a freshman (falls and team points) and set the state record for team points. One of only seven Baldwin High wrestlers ever to win 40 matches in a season.
Hunter Haralson, freshman, LHS
Runner-up in the 112-pound weight class at the Class 6A state tournament. Finished the season with a 34-10 record. Was a regional champion and helped the Lions to a ninth-place finish at the state meet.
Josh Hanson, senior, Baldwin
Capped senior season with a third-place showing at the Class 4A state meet (135 pounds). Was 43-9 for the season, earning first-team academic all-state honors. Finished fifth in career victories at Baldwin with 126 and is one of only seven wrestlers at the school to win 40 matches in a season. Will wrestle at Oklahoma City University next season.
Caleb Clayton-Molby, junior, Eudora
Earned a second-straight Class 4A state tournament berth this season, finishing fourth overall in the 285-pound class and finishing the season with an overall record of 22-9. Finished first at the Frontier League tournament and first at regionals.
Jeremie Maus, senior, Tonganoxie
Finished with a 40-7 record this season in the 171-pound weight class and with 108 career victories. Turned in a fifth-place showing at the Class 4A state tournament. Was a league and regional champion.
Dennis Madden, senior, Perry-Lecompton
Completed a 36-5 season with a fourth-place finish at the Class 4A state tournament. Wrestled at 140 pounds. Was the team’s lone state qualifier, finishing 4-2 at the state meet.
Dustin Walthall, senior, Lawrence High
One of four LHS wrestlers to win at least two matches at the Class 6A state tournament. Won regional championship. Finished the year 30-9 and was an all-academic first-team selection, as well as a member of the District 1 East all-star team. Wrestled at 171 pounds.
Ammon Austin, senior, Free State
Qualified for the Class 6A state tournament at 285 pounds. A two-time state qualifier. Finished second at the regional tournament. Concluded the season with an 11-8 record.
Tyler Crotinger, senior, Santa Fe Trail
Qualified for the Class 4A state tournament in the 112-pound weight class, finishing 2-2 while there. Finished 34-10 overall in his final prep season. Earned academic all-state honors.
