Planning begins for Relay for Life

Cancer. It’s an ugly disease that affects so many people.

If you want to help raise money to fight the disease and have fun doing it, then you don’t want to miss the opportunity to participate in the annual Douglas County Relay for Life, set for June 11.

Relay For Life is an overnight, 12-hour relay event that celebrates survivorship and raises money for research and programs of the American Cancer Society. There also is a luminaria ceremony, cancer survivors’ lap, contests, dancing and camping out, among other activities.

Last year’s event drew 700 participants and raised $170,000.

To get involved or learn more, contact Stacie Schroeder at 800-359-1025 or Tina Yates at 785-749-2985.

You also can attend a meeting for new team captains at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, 325 Maine. For returning captains, there will be a meeting at 5:30 p.m. March 30 at LMH.
