Parks & Rec sponsorships offered

Area businesses soon will have the chance to hang their names in some of the city’s busier parks.

The city’s Parks and Recreation department has created a new sponsorship program that will allow businesses to hang 4-foot by 6-foot banners on the outfield fences of the Holcom Sports Complex, the Youth Sports Complex and the Clinton Lake Softball Complex. In addition, the city is offering smaller banner space in all of the city’s indoor recreation centers, plus at the indoor and outdoor aquatic centers. Prices range from $300 to $350 per banner. The program is expected to generate about $10,000.

For $1,500 businesses will be able to sponsor the Lawrence City Band Concerts that are held each summer in South Park. The department also is taking inquiries from businesses about purchasing the naming rights for the South Park Wading Pool.

All the sponsorship efforts are coming after city commissioners previously asked the department to look for new revenue sources.
