6News names new director

Reporter Jesse Fray promoted

Jesse Fray, 6News anchor and police and courts reporter, has been named director of 6News.

Fray is responsible for leading news coverage for 6News and video for The World Company’s Lawrence-based news operations, including LJWorld.com.

“The company has had the opportunity to meet and evaluate a number of qualified candidates for this important position. We are delighted to offer the post to an experienced internal applicant who has earned the respect of his colleagues,” said Ralph Gage, director of special projects for The World Company. “Our goal under his leadership is to continue to provide the communities we serve with the best local television and Internet video news presentations possible, as an integral part of the most honored multimedia news organization in Northeast Kansas.”

Before joining 6News in 2008, Fray was a reporter for KTKA-TV, an ABC affiliate, where he won first place for In-Depth News Reporting from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters. He has also worked for KNSS radio and KAKE-TV, both in Wichita.

“It’s awesome to be part of a news, weather and sports team that’s committed to providing the community superior coverage where they want it, when they want it and how they want it — whether it’s on 6News, in the Lawrence Journal-World or on one of our many Web sites,” Fray said.

“I look forward to working with the entire 6News/Lawrence Journal-World team to utilize new technologies, with an emphasis on improving our video presentation on TV, on the Web, on cell phones and through any other gadgets or gizmos that hit the market,” Fray said. “The World Company is leading the way through its versatile news coverage, and I’m pleased to become a principal player in those efforts.”

Fray, a graduate of Wichita State University, assumes his new role on March 29.
