Vote questioned
To the editor:
I cringe with irritation when I get robo-calls from Lynn Jenkins, identifying herself as “my” representative. Ms. Jenkins’ votes in Congress certainly do not represent me in any way. For example, the House recently passed a bill (with substantial bipartisan support) setting federal rules to curb abusive discipline of elementary/secondary school students. The bill (H.R. 4247) provides a reasoned approach to reducing such abuses, which frequently occur to the most vulnerable kids, most particularly to those who are autistic.
This bill is strongly endorsed by the nonpartisan Autism Society. Congresswoman Jenkins choose to vote against it. Why? What possible constituency can Ms. Jenkins be representing by such a vote? Since she’s “my” representative, I’d like to know! And, Ms. Jenkins, no right-wing spin, please.
