The St. Patrick's Day parade should be the longest ever held on a weekday.

The St. Patrick’s Day parade participants won’t be the only ones causing all the ruckus Wednesday on Massachusetts Street.

Al Stuber, a retired Navy pilot and an engineer, is scheduled to lead a squadron of aerobatic sport planes in a flyover at 12:59 p.m. Wednesday, just before the parade’s scheduled start time. The parade starts at South Park and heads north up Massachusetts Street, across the Kansas River and into North Lawrence.

The planes may be familiar to football fans — the group often skywrites “KU” above KU home games.

Where could we park to see these if we are not going to the parade??

I would try to park on the top level of the parking garage on new 9th Hampshire street across from the art center should be the best view available.

I would make an early go and park your car there before the mad dash for parking spots before the parade.

Oh, Kansasfan21, I meant for watching the fly over. YOu won't be able to see the parade from that spot . Sorry. I thought you meant to watch the planes go over.

flux, if you don't like Lawrence, don't come here, don't live here, and please don't bother yourself with our local newspaper.

Toamto, a few years ago a stealth bomber flew over Memorial stadium. It was a most incredible sight to see. I mean it literally takes a person's breath away to see something so powerful so close up and the mass of it going overhead.

I agree con, it was way cool. I like all the flyovers (I live not too far from the stadium so they go right over my house) because it's something I don't often get to see. Heck, I even like it when I'm driving to KCI and a jet takes off over my head. :)

(I'm easily entertained, what can I say!)

Have a beer! It's a cool and green treat on a raw late-winter day....

Not much of a parade! Lot of businesses advertising, a lot of expensive cars, very few floats, very little creativity, and pretty disappointing (unless you had a green beer in your hand). Best in show…. The 6’5, 250 pound she-man posing like a little girl on the back of a float. Now that was funny!
