KU women WNIT bound after loss to OSU

While Thursday’s 76-69 loss to Oklahoma State in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City, Mo., dashed its hopes of an NCAA Tournament berth, the Kansas University women’s basketball team appears to be headed for the WNIT.

One year after reaching the WNIT championship game — a home loss to South Florida — the KU women will return to the field, KU coach Bonnie Henrickson announced after Thursday’s loss to OSU.

Kansas, which sits at 15-15 overall, has lost six in a row and eight of its last 10 games.

KU officials said the Jayhawks likely would get a home game in the first round of the WNIT and that the game probably would be played Thursday at Allen Fieldhouse.
