Collins gesture

To the editor:

Like every Jayhawk fan, I watched with great interest, excitement and some sadness as Sherron Collins closed out his career in Allen Fieldhouse. It was great for him to go out on top with a win against a rival like K-State. Of course, I listened afterward on the radio as he thanked his coaches, family, teammates and fans. I doubt there was a dry eye in the house.

The next day in the Journal-World, Gary Bedore reported how Sherron was struggling with what to say in his speech and how it continued to plague him during the day. Which brings me to my point. Through all this, Sherron took time out of one of the biggest days in his life to go to my children’s school, Quail Run, and read to the kids. What an amazing young man and role model to his own children and children everywhere. I know his family is very proud of him, as is the entire Jayhawk Nation. Thanks for the memories, Sherron, and we hope you and the Hawks give us more to celebrate during the next month or so. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
