KU’s interim provost announced as fifth liberal arts dean finalist

Kansas University’s interim provost has been announced as a fifth candidate for its open liberal arts dean position.

While the liberal arts dean search committee had originally intended to announce only four finalists for the position, Danny Anderson, who was named as KU’s interim provost after the departure of Richard Lariviere to the University of Oregon, was named as a fifth finalist Thursday morning.

He had previously served as KU’s vice provost for academic affairs and as associate liberal arts dean for interdisciplinary programs and area studies centers.

Anderson will meet with faculty, staff, students and the public in a forum at 3 p.m. March 10 in Alderson Auditorium in the Kansas Union.

The other announced finalists are Greg Simpson, KU’s interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; Joseph Shields, chairman of the department of physics and astronomy at the University of Ohio; Susan Carlson, associate provost for faculty advancement and diversity at Iowa State University; and Matthew C. Moen, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Dakota.
