Pothole city

To the editor:

I couldn’t help but laugh to myself when I looked over the city’s online Pothole Report Form today. I know the form asks for the specific location of the pothole, but could I just write in “Lawrence, Kansas”?

I love Lawrence. I think it is one of the best and most beautiful cities around. Unfortunately, I can’t always take everything in because I’m too busy trying to dodge all of the craters around town. I see articles about city crews filling potholes, and I see the city crews filling potholes. But every time it rains or snows, the potholes only come back angrier and angrier. My car is getting really scared.

How many times do the crews fill and refill the same pothole each year? I get that Lawrence is often cold, wet and snowy, but I’ve been to colder, wetter and snowier cities, and the potholes aren’t even a tenth as bad. So what gives?
