Good investment

To the editor:

In these lean budget times, when the economy of the city, state and nation appears to be on the verge of collapse, some might question the wisdom of an $18 million library expansion. But as an American taxpayer, I can’t conceive of a better investment. As a storehouse of knowledge and a forum to discuss ideas, the public library is an essential component of our city’s social fabric. A vibrant, expanded public library will provide Lawrencians the necessary tools, skills and assurance to navigate through the difficult times ahead.
