• Heather Watson, PT/ LAT, joins the clinical staff of OrthoKansas PA. Watson previously worked for Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg; her specialties include orthopaedic, neuro, spine and musculoskeletal injuries.

• Jeff Lewis of Anglers, 1004 Mass., was the winner of The River City Cook-off. The event brought in approximately $4,000 for the Friends of the Kaw.

• Local direct sales vendors will host a fundraiser to benefit the Lawrence Humane Society from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 10 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Building 2. Vendors will raffle off donations and collect wish-list items at the door.

• Callahan Creek, a Lawrence-based marketing communications agency, was recently named one of the best companies to work for in the Kansas City area by Ingram’s magazine. Companies were reviewed based on working conditions, benefits and culture. Winning businesses were categorized as either small, medium or large companies. Callahan Creek was a winner in the small company category.

• Leo Chen joins the agency as associate creative director. In this role, Chen will help drive creative strategy for the agency’s clients.

• Sarah Randolph has been promoted to marketing and development manager for Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation, and Hospice Care. Randolph has been employed by VNA as its community liaison for more than four years.

• Joseph R. Gatti, a Lawrence dentist, attended the 19th annual meeting of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine June 4-5 in San Antonio. Clinicians and researchers presented the latest information available relating to oral appliance therapy for the treatment of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea.

• TherapyWorks will host a free seminar, “Discover Wellness – How It Can Make You Rich,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at 1311 Wakarusa Drive. Cindy Johnson, TherapyWorks owner and physical therapist, and Mark Howarter, owner of The Chiropractic Experience Wellness Center, will discuss how wellness can benefit residents emotionally, physically and possibly financially.

• 3 Spoons Yogurt, 732 Mass., offers 14 flavors of self-serve frozen yogurt and more than 30 topping choices. The company has created the “Spooning With…” program designed to benefit the community’s schools, youth teams, and organizations by donating a percentage of sales to designated groups throughout the week. In 2010, 3 Spoons Yogurt has already donated more than $12,000 from sales back to the community.

• Jim Hanna, financial adviser and certified financial planner practitioner, has become an Ameriprise platinum financial services adviser based on the success of his financial services practice in 2009. Hanna, a former long-time Lawrence resident, has an office in Topeka.

• A Lawrence pharmacist, James H. Lichauer, Pharm.D., BCPS, FASHP, director of clinical pharmacy services at the Kansas City VA Medical Center, has been named a fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists for distinguished service to pharmacy practice in hospitals and health systems. The award was presented June 8 during the society’s summer meeting and exhibition in Tampa, Fla.
