Circling shark?

To the editor:

While thoroughly enjoying Kansas University’s success in basketball and, occasionally, football, I have never been a fan of the university’s overall elitist attitude. That said, Dolph Simons’ latest Saturday Column reminded me of a journalist who either has tons more inside information about KU than us common folk or a bitter reporter who has been left out of the loop, perhaps for good reason.

Reading the entire article, I found little useful information beyond assumptions on which to substantiate the positions taken, one of journalism’s cornerstones. Of course, it’s his pen and his paper and this is commentary. Does the picture of a shark in the water circling its kill come to mind? As a retired teacher and administrator, I’m reminded of the old saying, “Never get into an argument with a person who buys their ink by the barrel.” I hope the paper continues to arrive at my door every day. I read almost all of it, especially the funnies.
