Amateur radio operators ham it up

Local amateur radio operators will be joining with thousands of others across the country to teach residents about their emergency response capabilities June 26 and 27.

Amateur, also known as ham, radio volunteers provide free emergency communications for state and local emergency response agencies.

Starting at 1 p.m. June 26 — and running continuously through noon June 27 — at the Douglas County Fairgrounds building 1, the Douglas County Amateur Radio Club will demonstrate what the service is about and how residents can get their own FCC radio license.
