Republican enters race for County Commission

Arch Naramore will face incumbent Commissioner Mike Gaughan in the race for a seat on the Douglas County Commission.

Naramore paid $338.62 — representing 1 percent of his would-be commission salary, plus a $35 filing fee — to run as a Republican against Gaughan, a Democrat, in the commission’s 1st District, which represents much of central Lawrence, including the Kansas University campus.

Naramore lives at 1204 N.Y.

In 2004, Naramore lost to incumbent U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., in the Republican primary for Senate, 87 percent to 13 percent. He has won election to be a member of the county’s Kaw Valley Drainage District.

Because neither Naramore nor Gaughan faces opposition within his own party, there will be no primary for County Commission. The general election is Nov. 2.
