Seating premium
To the editor:
Dolph Simons, in his long-running series of diatribes against Kansas University, finally had something legitimate to complain about in his May 29 Saturday column. Unfortunately he chose to focus on petty complaints, rather than legitimate ones — and failed, yet again, to offer practical suggestions or solutions.
To him, I say, “No, Dolph, someone who has paid many thousands of extra dollars for their seat location has absolutely NO right to ‘be sure that those sitting next to them have paid the same premium.'”
And why should they?
Never mind that this “premium” is supposed to be a “donation” to support student athletes.
If I want to give away my tickets to friends or family or even total strangers — none of whom give me a penny for them — then I absolutely have the right to do so, and it’s no business whatsoever of the people sitting in the next seats.
Not only that, but apparently you’ve forgotten that, last year, KU athletics started a new system where season tickets holders can sell their unused tickets online via the Jayhawk Ticket Marketplace, which guarantees even more people in the same seats.
Plus the Select-a-Seat process itself encourages constant change.
Finally, believe it or not, people don’t come to watch the fans!
So relax, be a good sport, and just enjoy the game. Rock Chalk, Jayhawk!

Lawrence
