Mo. handler convicted in death of dogs

? A St. Louis-area dog handler faces sentencing this summer after being convicted of misdemeanor counts in the deaths of dogs under her care.

STLtoday.com, the Web site for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reported that a Jefferson County judge convicted 25-year-old Mary Wild on all counts of animal abuse Friday afternoon.

Authorities say Wild left eight show dogs overnight in a hot van last summer after returning from a dog show in Iowa. A Siberian husky survived, but the other dogs died.

Wild told authorities she planned to put the dogs in kennels in the garage. But because of the heat, she decided to leave them in portable kennels in a van at her home near Arnold. She says she set up fans, left a door open, and left windows partially open.

It wasn’t clear if Wild would appeal.
