Meeting will address conservation program
Signup for the Conservation Reserve Program will be discussed at an informational meeting.
USDA Farm Service Agency and Natural Resources Conservation Service officials will discuss eligibility, the signup process and Environmental Benefits Index point system at 2 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Deal Six Auditorium, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper St.
The CRP general signup period is Aug. 2-27. Land not enrolled in CRP may be offered in this signup, provided all eligibility requirements are met. Additionally, current CRP participants with contracts expiring Sept. 30 may make new contract offers.
Kansas has 2,759,298 acres enrolled in CRP, of which 610,311 acres will expire Sept. 30.
CRP is a voluntary program that assists farmers, ranchers and other agricultural producers to use their environmentally sensitive land for conservation benefits.
