Kristi Sheafer, Olathe, and Shawn Trimble, Lawrence, announce the birth of their son, Rex Maxwell Sheafer-Trimble, on July 9, 2010, at Olathe Medical Center.

Rex has a sister, Isabel, 3.

His maternal grandparents are Tim and Jan Sheafer, Olathe; his paternal grandparents are Mickey and Linda Trimble, Topeka.

His great-grandparents are Alvin and Clara Neuman, and Rex and Nadine Trimble, all of Medford, Okla., and Don and Irma Hale, and Gene and Margaret Sheafer, all of Olathe.

Libby Queen, daughter of Lee and Lori Queen, Lawrence, was initiated into the Kansas State University chapter of Order of Omega. Order of Omega is a Greek honorary that recognizes leadership, academics and strong relations within the Greek community. Queen, a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, will be a junior this fall studying business administration and leadership studies. She was also named the recipient of the College of Business Administration Dean’s Scholarship from KSU, and awarded the Frontier Farm Credit Scholarship.

The University of Saint Mary held its spring 2010 commencement May 8.

Area students awarded bachelor’s degrees in nursing are: Jesse Noell, Basehor; and Jenna Bradley, Jerriann Yorkovich and Tamara Young, all of Tonganoxie.

Other area graduates are: Shauna Hernandez (cum laude), Brandy Wheeler and Lisa Wynn (summa cum laude), Basehor; Ryan Berry, Christine Glover and Jennie Hull (Delta Epsilon Sigma), Lawrence; and Donald Harden, Jamie Spruk and Lucas Williamson, Tonganoxie.

Area students awarded master’s degrees are: Linsey High and Ryan Wohletz, Basehor; Raymond Dalton, Craig Orkwis, and Gregory Seuferling, Lawrence; and Gretchen Peirsol, Tonganoxie.

Patrick Carttar, who will be a senior at Free State High School, was selected to participate in the Economics for Leaders program from July 11-18 at Vanderbilt University, Nashville. Carttar was one of 32 students from around the country who was accepted into the Foundation for Teaching Economics’ Nashville Economics for Leaders program. During the weeklong program, students attain an understanding of economic reasoning principles and how to employ these concepts for successful and effective leadership.
