Six Bishop Seabury Academy seventh-grade students, who participated in the June 6 Duke University Talent Identification Program at the Lied Center of Kansas, also qualified for state recognition based on high performance on standardized tests. They are: Addie Graham, Jacqueline Hayes, Harley Holub, Annika Knudson, Shannon Tichenor and Anna Westbrook. Knudson and Westbrook also qualified for grand recognition at the national level.
Russell “Rusty” Meigs, who earned a doctorate of education degree from Baker University in May, received the Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Association of Teacher Educators-Kansas. His dissertation was titled “The Development and Pilot of the Technology Integration Matrix Questionnaire.”
Meigs will receive a monetary award at a future ATE-K meeting and plans to enter the 2011 National ATE competition. The state award is to help encourage, recognize and promote exemplary doctoral level research that substantially contributes to the improvement of teacher education. Meigs is the senior web architect for Olathe school district and an adjunct continuing education instructor for Baker University.
Colby Lawhorn, son of Kristine and Chad Lawhorn of Eudora, graduated from the Investigate Space: Solar System program June 25 at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson. Colby will be in second grade at Eudora Elementary this fall.
The five-day camp is for children entering second and third grades. Students participate in various activities that encourage learning, teamwork and cooperation. These activities include creating a mission patch, constructing a solar system mobile and taking part in a demonstration that explains the distance of the planets in our solar system.
Baker University’s Alpha Chi Omega Omicron chapter was named the National Housing Corporation Board of the Year at the Alpha Chi Omega national convention held July 9-12 in Washington, D.C. The sorority was awarded the National Council Trophy, which recognizes the chapter that best exemplifies the ideals and mission of Alpha Chi Omega. In the past year, Alpha Chi Omega has received many honors, including the grade cup, outstanding alumnae relations, outstanding new member education, outstanding risk management and outstanding scholarship awards.
Chad and Tammy Wilkerson, Florence, Miss., announce the birth of their daughter, Baylee Marie Wilkerson, on June 22, 2010, at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Miss.

Kansas State University recognized more than 2,850 students with spring semester honors and more than 320 students with graduation honors.
Semester honors are awarded to students who earned a 3.75 grade-point average or higher. Graduation honors are awarded to students with a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.95 for summa cum laude, 3.85 to 3.949 for magna cum laude and 3.75 to 3.848 for cum laude.

Thelma Hemphill Evans, Lawrence, will turn 100 years old today. Relatives have gathered from Ireland, Hawaii and throughout the United States to celebrate with her. Both the Evans and Hemphill families have an early Lawrence history. The Evans family was in the transportation business, and the Hemphill family was in farmland and residential real estate businesses.
Amy and Jason Edmondson, Overland Park, announce the birth of their son, Nathan Lawrence Edmondson, on March 24, 2010, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
Nathan has a brother, Matthew, 2.
His maternal grandparents are Francine Winn and Ralph Schmidt, both of Overland Park; his paternal grandparents are Christopher Edmondson and Teresa Edmondson, both of Lawrence.
His great-grandparents are Larry Winn Jr., Joan Winn and Julie Deboe, all of Overland Park.
Anna Clayton, Bridget Cary, Sadie Keller and Mark Stevens, all of Lawrence, graduated from Level 2 of the Future Astronaut Training Program (FATP) July 3 at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson.
The week-long camp, for students entering grades 8-10, emphasizes teamwork, leadership, problem solving and builds on knowledge gained from FATP Level 1.
FATP Level 2 incorporates aspects of astronaut training with advanced courses in space shuttle systems, space science and physiology, and microgravity science.
Anna, daughter of Andrew and Rebecca Clayton, will be in eighth grade at Central Junior High School this fall.
Bridget, daughter of Dan and Susan Cary, will be in ninth grade at West Junior High School this fall.
Sadie, daughter of Judy and Tim Keller, will be in eighth grade at Central this fall.
Mark, son of Paul and Annie Stevens, will be in ninth grade at Southwest Junior High School this fall.
Caleb Flory and MacKenzie Flory, both of Baldwin City, exhibited Angus cattle at the 2010 National Junior Angus Show July 11-17 in Denver.
Caleb and MacKenzie, junior members of the American Angus Association, are among 613 young Angus breeders from 34 states and Canada who entered.
