The Lawrence Police Department will conduct a citizens police academy this fall.

The academy will meet from Oct. 5 until graduation on Nov. 4. The academy will not meet on Oct. 14, which is the night of the KU/K-State football game.

The Citizens Academy is a 30-hour course that covers police training, police procedures, legal issues and basic Lawrence police philosophies.

During training, participants can speak with patrol officers, department staff and the chief of police.

In order to participate, you must be 18 or older, a Lawrence resident, have no history of criminal behavior, pass a background check and provide three local references.

Applications are available at lawrencepolice.org.

-so if you paid your debt to society, you can not participate in being educated about the law or enforcing the law. Good on ya! Fail program!

Yes, that darned criminal record thing... It just keeps coming up and frustrating those post-conviction law-enforcement career aspirations.

I just can't imagine why the LPD wouldn't want to provide an insider's perspective on police training, procedures and philosophies to an ex-con.

If you just want to "learn" about the law, go to the library and do some research. For example, you might find Chapter 21 of the Kansas Statutes to be of particular interest.

I see smitty/YH is back. Did you have a nice vacation, that is where you were at weren't you.

You should have left smitty's rant out there to show his ignorance. Now he'll just come on and claim censorship and that you are all a part of the conspiracy.

I still haven't figured out why the FBI hasn't cleared the LPD of everything smitty claims if they were so easily able to sweep this "murder" under the rug.

Will Michael Winslow and Steve Guttenberg be there?
