Tax burdens

To the editor:

HELLO… Is anyone out there paying attention? Are our real estate taxes really going up again? Does Douglas County think we’re a bottomless pit of wealth? Our economy is in a shambles. People are losing jobs, losing sleep and going without just to make ends meet. Soon, only the rich will be able to afford to own homes in Douglas County. Taxes are more than what mortgage payments once were and climbing at an astronomical rate. Where does it end?

I’m not an intellectual wizard, but I think that a person’s income should be taken into consideration when determining taxes. Anything less than that is discrimination against the elderly and those who are down on their luck. This isn’t Dubai, city of wealth and extravagance. Douglas County should budget itself and go without just like the rest of us have been forced to do. These are hard times, people. We’re on our knees. Don’t put us six feet under.
