Top finishers in KU competition for young musicians to play Saturday

The six top finishers in Kansas University’s International Institute for Young Musicians’ piano competition will perform at a concert on Saturday.

The concert is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Swarthout Recital Hall in Murphy Hall on the KU campus. Tickets are available at the door for $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.

Frank Wu, 15, of Chicago, and Chelsea De Souza, 16, of Mumbai, India, tied for second-place honors at the IIYM competition. Aileen Gozali, 15, of Singapore, finished in third place. Judges did not award a first-place prize.

Three other youths earned finalist prizes and will also perform on Saturday — Joseph Eisele, 15, of Greenwood Village, Colo.; Jina Kim, 17, of Birmingham, Ala.; and Kevin Ahfat, 15, of Centennial, Colo.
