— Kansas State Treasurer Dennis McKinney has launched a new effort to help return unclaimed property to businesses and nonprofit organizations.

McKinney's new "Back to Business" program results from a partnership with the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce and the National Federation of Independent Business.

The treasurer's office holds property left by estates, banks and utility companies or in safe deposit boxes until it's claimed.

McKinney says thousands of businesses may have millions of dollars in unclaimed property.

The treasurer's office has put a new "Back to Business" link on its website that accesses a list of businesses with unclaimed property.
