Vintage planes come to Lawrence Airport today

World War II-era planes descend on airport; visitors can check them out today and Friday

A trio of vintage airplanes will be flying into the Lawrence Municipal Airport this afternoon.

The planes were scheduled to arrive about 1 p.m. today, but were delayed and now are not expected to arrive until 2 p.m. They’ll be in display from when they arrive until 5 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday.

The planes are restored P-51 Mustangs, B-17 Flying Fortresses and B-24 Liberators. All three planes are models that saw significant service in World War II, particularly in Europe.

Walk-throughs of the planes are available for $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 years and younger. Half-hour flying trips on the two bombers are available for $425, but reservations are required and are available by calling 800-568-8924.
