Marysville ? The new $17.3 million hospital in northeast Kansas is scheduled to open by next spring, about a month later than originally planned.

Community Memorial Healthcare’s new critical access hospital in Marysville faced delays from a rough winter and wet spring. But officials expect staff and equipment to move into the new facility by about next May, said Curtis Hawkinson, administration and chief executive officer.

Hawkinson told The Topeka Capital-Journal that the new facility, north of its current location, will have 15 private patient rooms, four semi-private patient rooms and two labor and delivery rooms. The old hospital building will be torn down and replaced with parking spaces.

The southern wing of the existing hospital, where the emergency room is, will become a free-standing facility that will be home to occupational, speech, respiratory and physical therapies; a sleep lab; a dialysis clinic; and a sleeping area for medical students, nurses and other staff.
