Former prison officer pleads no contest

? A 33-year-old former officer at a state prison in Topeka has pleaded no contest to charges of having sex with female inmates.

As part of a plea agreement, Nathan VanDyke pleaded no contest to two counts of having unlawful sexual relations.

A third count of the same charge was dismissed.

Sentencing is set for Aug. 13 in Shawnee County District Court.

As part of the plea, attorneys recommended that VanDyke serve concurrent sentences on the two convictions.

He faces a penalty ranging from probation to a maximum of 13 months in prison.

VanDyke worked at the Topeka Correctional Facility for nine years, and was fired in October after an investigation into assertions by former inmates.
