Nature center needs help feeding animals

The Prairie Park Nature Center is looking for a volunteer on Wednesday mornings from approximately 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. to help feed the mammals and the birds of prey. A volunteer with animal experience, and who can work independently, is preferred. The center will provide training.

Immediate needs

• Mothers Of PreSchoolers (MOPS) is looking for volunteers to work with children ages birth to 6 years. The group meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month throughout the school year. Volunteers need to be at Lawrence Free Methodist Church, at 31st Street and Lawrence Avenue, by 8:45 a.m. and will be done at 11:30 a.m. Volunteers are welcome to simply show up but it is preferred that they contact Julie McCreary ahead of time at 785-727-9397 or Julie_mccreary@hotmail.com. Volunteers should be able to commit to at least a semester at a time.

• Operation WildLife currently has several volunteer opportunities available for wildlife rehabilitation volunteers, with training on-site. Duties include cleaning cages, feeding the animals, administering medication and many other exciting tasks! Shifts include weekday, evening and weekend hours.

OWL is also in need of a front office assistant to help with data entry, filing, and general office management. The hours and days are flexible.

• ECKAN’s Just Food needs volunteers to help out with its food pantry needs. An office assistant is needed to perform administrative assistant duties including answering phones, filing, light data entry, inventory and food pantry support — taking client information and filling orders.

Also needed are food pantry organizers to work from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday to help stocking front shelves from storage, and also help in making food bags each day for families. Contact John Olsen at 856-7030 or e-mail jolsen@eckan.org to volunteer.
