Grateful walker

January 20, 2010

To the editor:

I have been appalled recently by the selfish, hardhearted and downright mean sentiments expressed by people who don’t want to be bothered to shovel their sidewalks.

Don’t you realize that many people have to walk to get where they are going?

The recent snows have resulted in much hardship for me and many like me. I have been exhausted walking through snow. Many times, I have had to endanger myself by walking in the street because the sidewalks were totally impassable. Many times, I have had to stay home because going about was so difficult.

But it would have been so much more difficult without the new snow ordinance. God bless you, city commissioners!

Do you actually shovel a walk? How long is it? If you do not, have you volunteered to help the seniors and those with disabilities who current have to shovel their walks? Less than half the citizens have to shovel, what are the rest doing?
