A 49-acre patch of native and replanted prairie overlooking Clinton Lake is designated to remain native and replanted prairie, under a conservation easement recently donated to the Kansas Land Trust.

Retired physician Joe Hollowell Jr. donated the easement, along North 1500 Road at the lake’s northwest corner. It is one of four recently accepted by the Lawrence-based trust, which manages 41 private easements that limit development and ensure conservation on 11,666 acres in Kansas.

“It’s in perpetuity,” said Jerry Jost, the trust’s director of land protection. “They’re forever.”

The others:

• Earles Easement, donated by Ralph and Roma Earles, 135 acres of woods and trails north of North 300 Road near the southeast corner of Douglas County State Fishing Lake, near Baldwin City.

• Theodore Wehrle Easement, a 197-acre native prairie and hay meadow in Osage County, donated by Theda Davis.

• Smith Easement, 87 acres of reclaimed native prairie, riparian buffer and limestone quarries in Geary County, donated by Chris Smith.
