Lawrence parks department closes ice-skating areas because of unsafe conditions
The fun on the ice should quickly come to an end, Lawrence Parks and Recreation officials said Thursday.
Because of rising temperatures, parks and recreation leaders said they have closed the ice skating area at the Lawrence Rotary Arboretum, 5100 W. 27th St., and the area at Watson Park at Sixth and Kentucky streets.
The higher temperatures have weakened the ice and made it unsafe for skating, the department said.
