Receiving a cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming. There are unfamiliar medical terms, tests and treatments that can leave patients and their families feeling overwhelmed.

That’s why Lawrence Memorial Hospital and the American Cancer Society are teaming up to offer “I Can Cope” classes.

They will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursdays in January in Meeting Room A at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, 325 Maine.

“I Can Cope” classes will provide practical information about cancer, an understanding of treatments used to fight cancer, and strategies for self-care for people facing cancer.

The classes, which are free and open to the public, will be:

• Thursday — “Understanding Cancer Treatments.”

• Jan. 14 — “Managing the Side Effects and Pain of Cancer.”

• Jan. 21 — “Nutrition and Exercise During and After Cancer Treatment.”

• Jan. 28, “Taking Charge of Money Matters.”
