Douglas County hosting two upcoming weather educational events

Douglas County Emergency Management is sponsoring two weather-related informational events in March.

The first is a National Weather Service session — “Weather 101” — at 7 p.m. March 11 at South Junior High School, 2734 La. The event will provide information about severe thunderstorms and safety tips. The session is free and open to the public, and attendees can purchase all-hazard radios at cost.

On March 20, a Severe Weather Symposium will be held from 7:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H. The event is geared toward “storm spotters,” and will train participants on severe storm topics. 6News Chief Meteorologist Matt Elwell will be among featured speakers. Cost to attend is $15, and the registration deadline is March 12.
