To the editor:
Once again Bill Self shows the definition of the word “class.” While out with friends from out of town we were lucky enough to exchange a few words and get his autograph on our friend’s purse. (She is a huge fan!)
Every time I have ever run into him around town, he has always taken the time to be friendly and gracious. We were very fortunate for many, many reasons when he decided to come to KU!

Yeah, being in the spotlight like that has perks. Did you ever stop and think of the downside? There are days when I'm irritable with people out in the world and they haven't even said one word to me. There is basically a spotlight on someone like Bill Self every time he's outside his home. Just one harsh word, with even the pushiest of fans, and chances are someone will be around to record it on their cell phone. Not to mention the folks who feel it is their duty to educate the coach on the game of basketball! I'm sure it's a completely love/hate thing...everyone loved Roy until he left town; now his name may as well be Quantrill!
Good job coach, it's nice to have you here. Be considerate of the guy, respect his privacy. Just because you see him in the store doesn't mean you have to bug him for an autograph. I'm sure he loves the praise, but at times I bet he'd love just being left alone.

Agreed! I saw him out once and he was sweet enough to take a picture with me. Such a nice and classy coach. Very proud to have him at KU!
