Jefferson County man gets 41 months after domestic dispute

A Jefferson County man has pleaded no contest to aggravated battery and interference with parental custody.

Thomas Cloyd, 47, was sentenced to 41 months in prison for the aggravated battery charge, and one year for the interference charge. The sentences will be served concurrently.

As part of a plea agreement, a charge of attempted second-degree murder was dropped, a district court clerk said.

The charges stemmed from a September domestic dispute at Cloyd’s residence on 54th Street near Lake Dabinawa and southwest of McLouth.

Though law enforcement officials did not release details of the incident, Cloyd’s wife was sent to the hospital after Cloyd fled the area with his three sons before being arrested in Haysville in Sedgwick County.

The three young boys were not harmed.
