Westar meeting set on Spearville wind site

? Westar Energy is host to a community meeting set for today in Spearville about its plans for a wind energy site in western Kansas.

The location outside Spearville in Ford and Hodgeman counties is designed for up to 500 megawatts of wind energy. The initial phase of wind development is expected to be about 200 megawatts with plans for completion by late 2011 or 2012.

Westar owns or buys power from three other wind farms in Kansas — one near Leoti, one near Nashville, Kan., and one near Concordia.
