Bowling fundraiser has positions to fill

Big Brothers Big Sisters needs volunteers for an upcoming fundraising event, “Bowl for Kids Sake.” Duties include social bowling lane hosts, pledge card hosts, T-shirt table, pizza table and greeters.

The event will run over three days, and volunteers may serve at any or all shifts: Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. or 9 p.m.; Feb. 27 at 4 p.m., 6 p.m. or 8 p.m.; or March 6 at 4 p.m., 6 p.m. or 8 p.m. For more information contact Cathy at 843-7359 or cbrashler@ksbbbs.org.

Immediate needs

• The Roger Hill Volunteer Center is now collecting prom dresses, or any formal dress appropriate for a dance, for its second annual prom dress drive. Donations may be brought to the United Way building at 2518 Ridge Court until March 3. • Independence Inc. is seeking volunteers for three different positions. Volunteers must commit for a three-month term, serving one 3- to 4-hour shift per week. Independence Inc. will perform background checks and also provide training. The positions are:

Receptionist: perform office duties like sorting mail, answering phones, and greeting the public.

General volunteer: help out in many capacities like entering data, making photocopies, painting and cleaning.

Equipment exchange volunteer: will clean, tag, and photograph donated durable medical equipment.

• The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) is seeking help at the Centro Hispano.

The Centro Hispano and Kansas University are once again collaborating to offer tax assistance to Latino families who come to the center. VITA clinics will be conducted at St. John the Evangelist Church during February, March and April. Dates will begin in late February and will be announced soon. Tax preparers and interpreters are asked to contact Lydia Diebolt at ldiebolt@centrohispanolawrence.org. Training will be provided. Fluency in Spanish is not required (except for those volunteering to be interpreters!).
