Trafficway surveying to continue Wednesday

February 2, 2010

Engineering survey work along the South Lawrence Trafficway will extend into Wednesday, with the highway reduced to one lane for traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. between North 1500 Road and Clinton Parkway.

Flaggers alternately will stop traffic between the two points, with a pilot car leading vehicles through the work zone.

Surveyors are gathering engineering data for the design of a potential new trafficway interchange at North 1500, which is Bob Billings Parkway in the city of Lawrence. The project has been pursued by governmental leaders but has yet to secure any money for construction.

Oh great let's get another stop light that turns red for one car turning right. Soules is the worst traffic engineer in America.

NO JOKE! the stoplight at 6th and congressional (new walmart) is both dangerous and extremely questionable, at best. a stoplight at the bottom of a hill on a highway? one minivan stops 40 cars? Try to get through that light and the light at wakarusa...HA! I dare you. the only way to do it is to run through the empty red light at congressional like everyone else. that intersection should be a flashing yellow for the cross traffic-nothing else.

and bob billings the new speedway? all I can say is THANK GAWD! then I don't have to take 6th st and sit at all the bogus lights whilst the one walmart shopper in a beat up dirty caravan stops all the traffic on highway 40 just cause they need to burn a few food stamps.

Round a bouts don't work. Every Subaru and Volvo driver in Lawrence stops at the round a bouts and waits, worse than if it were a stop sign.

Worthy to reprint today.

In other news, Lawrence Granolas are washing their dirty toes and fingernails in preperation for a new offensive aimed at stopping any growth in the Lawrence area. They are expected to Purchase new birkenstocks and wool sock after a hardy brunch of granola and organic fruit juice. A meeting will be held to discuss intervention and interference tactics at noon, when they are assured most of their constiuents will be awake and possibly not yet stoned. More news as it becomes available. Later Dudes.

Instead of stop/go lights, build roundabouts. Cheaper in the long run and more friendly to the enviornment.

Soules is not the traffic engineer. He is the director of public works. The so called traffic engineer is David Woosley. He once said that they could make a round a bout work at 23rd and Iowa and take out the light.

I think he got his degree from a cracker jack box.

I've noticed that too. That is so frustrating. Stop 25 cars so that one car can slow down and turn right. The need a few more left turn yield on green arrows like the one they put at 34th & Iowa turning into Walmart. They need a few of those in front of Home Depot so that you don't have to stop and wait for oncoming traffic that isn't even there.

Let the noise begin in west Lawrence. Bob Billings Parkway will now really be a race track.
